Basic Hospice Chaplain Training
Part Two: The Hospice Chaplain must understand why spiritual care is important to hospice patients.
Spiritual care is of vital importance to most hospice patients and the family members who care for them. But what is spiritual care? Understanding spiritual care comes from understanding spirituality.
Spirituality is an intangible part of human existence found in the core of a personís being.
The Joint Commission states,
Spirituality can be defined as a complex and multidimensional part of the human experienceóour inner belief system. It helps individuals to search for the meaning and purpose of life, and it helps them experience hope, love, inner peace, comfort, and support.
